This time, I met with Helen, a holistic practitioner with a wealth of experience teaching meditation, yoga, Pilates, and breathwork. Helen has started her career journey in health and fitness. Through her life experiences as a person and professional supporting others, she found her way towards a fully rounded holistic approach. In this video, I talk with her about humble breathing!

You might ask – “why breathing?” "As long as we are alive, we breathe!" Yes, that, of course, is true. The challenge lies in the quality and awareness of our breath. When we breathe shallowly or erratically, our body can enter a state of stress, known as the fight or flight response.

Chronic stress and breath

This response is a natural survival mechanism, but when activated too frequently, it can lead to chronic stress and health problems. Equally, if you have experienced lots of stress or trauma in your life, your body has most likely learnt to control and hold your breath, perpetuating your body’s stress, even when the stressors are long gone.

By practising mindful breathwork, we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and counteracts the stress response. Helen explains the techniques and benefits of breath work, emphasizing how it can transform our mental and physical well-being.

Breathwork is a powerful practice that involves conscious control of breathing to influence mental, emotional, and physical states. It has been used for centuries in various cultures and traditions to promote relaxation, enhance mindfulness, and cultivate a sense of inner peace.

In today's fast-paced world, where stress and anxiety are common, breathwork offers a simple yet effective tool for achieving stress release and contentment.
